Campbell & Ehrenfried Brown, Campbell & Co was one of the earliest businesses in Auckland, a partnership established in 1840 between John Logan Campbell and William Brown. It Continued until 1874 when Brown relinquishd his interest in the firm. In 1897 there was an amalgamation with Ehrenfried Bros and the business became Campbell & Ehrenfried. (ABC November 1976) Although better known for their brewery interests, like Hancock's interests in the Te Aroha mineral waters, C&E had a similar interest in the Puriri mineral water. Exactly when the Ehrenfried Bros became involved I don't know but the NZ Herald of October 21 1878 reports the following: Mr Kelly, late of Tokatea mine, Coromandel, proposes to use the soda water
from the spring on his property at Puriri. Bottles |
