George Watts An early Timaru cordial manufacturer he established his business premises in Stafford St, Timaru in 1889. Some two years later, because of expansion, he moved to a larger building in Barnett St. The stone buildings & works covered more than 1/4 of an acre and were fitted with the most modern machinery for bottling, washing, aerating etc. Mr Watts manufactured all kinds of aerated waters, ginger beers and cordials as well as a herbal beer, described as his own invention. A native of Oxfordshire, England Mr watts came to NZ in the ship "Lady Jocelyn" in January 1875, and worked as a carpenter in Ashburton. In 1886 he moved to Timaru and opened a restaurant and was engaged in various pursuits before he started the manufacture of herbal beer and mineral waters.
